I hope all students are having a relaxing summer between all the hot spells. It was a great Summer Course in Brecon which is such a good venue to train at and to visit. Many students attended from all over. The weekend had the benefit of some of our top instructors, Steve West Sensei leading the way with his endless energy and expertise. Sensei Paul Murray introduced some free style pad work which he linked with traditional Kumite Gata training.
Sensei Gwyn Evans gave the the students the benefit of his immense experience linking basic attitudes of training to sport karate, showing that hard training and good etiquette run through all aspects of Wado. Sensei Tony Heap led the senior students through advanced kata training and pair work on both days. Everyone voted the weekend a success.

The WKU was asked to perform a karate demonstration at the Kurai Aikido Federations 30 year anniversay course. It was a great honour to be asked by our old friends to be present. Sensei Roy Sheperd was awarded his 6th Dan and many believe this was long overdue for this great aikidoka. Sensei's Heap and Romanowski gave a demonstration of traditional Tanto Dori. This was followed by Sensei Steve West and the team of senior instructors demonstration of Pinan Godan with bunkai. Those who remember Steve West in his international kata competition days will have notice that he has lost none of his expertise. Sensei's Paul Murray and Sala Uddin Ahmed performed both kumite gata and kihon kumite, these are in essence the soul of Wado karate and were well demonstrated. The finale of the demonstration was a performance of ki and impact breaking by Eastern European representative Sensei Jake Romanowski. This was again a breathtaking performance and amazed both the audience and other martial artist present. pictures on www.wadoryu.pl |

The team that went was Gary Morgan (squad captain), Ken Evans, Andrew Jones, Ross Edwards and Tim Marsden.
- WKU would like to thank Nick Haslett of Stationery Express Ltd for his sponsorship towards the team tracksuits. Nick is a long time Wado practitioner and supporter of the group. Thank you to our Senior Sensei Gwyn Evans for all his hard work in organising our side of things and Ken Evans from Merthyr club for all his work.
